From the first spadeful of rocky soil to the last hinge on the door, under the supervision of Pastor Duronel Casseus and his father Mr. Casseus, the new latrine was completed in 3 weeks at the cost of $3000 (U.S.). It was hand dug by the men of the Carissade Church of Christ finishing at 18.5 feet deep and 10.5 feet wide. Some supplies had to be transported from Port-au-Prince and some were purchased locally in the nearby town of Hinche. This project was a LOT of hard, manual labor in 90-100 degree heat every day. It was completed on a Saturday, in time for the congregation to see it on Sunday. In the words of Pastor Casseus, “The people are rejoicing!” What joy to have a private place for personal needs. This was truly a labor of love for the Church of Christ at Carissade.
